5 tips on how to Homeschool and Work successfully

  1. Make sure you are getting enough sleep

If Mama isn’t in a good place mentally then no one will be a good place mentally. Experts say you need 7-9 hours of sleep every night. If you’re tired then you will want to drag in the morning, sleep late and the rest of your day runs you not the other way around.

Take a nice warm lavender bath, drink a glass of wine and take your butt to sleep at a decent hour so that you can wake up and be refreshed.

  1. Automate as much as possible

When I say automate as much as possible I mean it. Not only do I automate all of my bills through online bill pay I also automate other tasks to help manage my household easier. Like for example, I have an instacart membership where I pay $100 a year to deliver my groceries. Every Sunday morning I make a list and place my order. I order enough to last me until next Sunday. Another way I automate my home is through hiring a cleaner. Taking 3 hours on a saturday to deep clean my house is for the birds. Instead I use that 3 hours a week to generate thousands of dollars for my business or I use that time to explore something new with my boys. Superwoman know her value and doesn’t spend hours of her week focusing on mundane tasks. Automate your life!

  1. Write everything that you need to do down.

This is huge! As mom’s our minds are running all over the place and it’s important early on that you develop a note taking system. Some people prefer writing things in a journal and some prefer taking notes in their phone. Whichever strategy you choose, pick on and stick to it. As you move into the top of the week and you are looking ahead, break down each category in your life, write down everything you need to do in each category. As you complete the various tasks check them off your list and celebrate what you accomplished!

  1. Time block your schedule

Ok this one is the game changer to actually making things happen. Now that you’ve written out everything you need to accomplish for the week, look at your calendar and begin to time block the tasks that you need to complete. For me even though we are unschoolers we still have a routine. My schedule with the kids and set up already on my schedule. I then schedule my work tasks around my homeschool routine. I’m flexible in case something took longer than expected or didn’t happen at all. Remaining flexible lowers stress and anxiety. It’s super important!

  1. Set expectations with your family

This is the most important tip. Be sure to talk with your family. It’s important for everyone to have their needs heard and for the family to discuss what routine works for everyone. For me I know that in order for me to be successful and homeschooling and working I need to have at least 2 days a week dedicated solely to getting work done. My husband wanted to make sure that he had at least 2 days with the boys to be involved in their unschooling too. This worked out perfectly! I schedule my office days to get work done and my boys unschool by working with their dad two days a week. Everyone’s needs are met! In order to keep your family bought in to this plan it’s important that you honor your part of the bargain. When it’s time to work you should work. You need to turn off all of the notifications on your phone. No email, no social media, nothing. Use the time you have to focus on getting what you need to get done. When it’s time to be with your family be with your family. No answering texts and phone calls during family time. Ensure that your clients and associates understand that as well.
